PY1 Safe2live Campaign

The Safe2Live© Social Marketing Media Campaign consists of state-of-the-art, culturally relevant, age-appropriate and engaging educational productions to increase HIV Awareness, Education and Prevention in high risk areas locally, regionally and nationally before becoming international.

The Safe2Live© Social Marketing Campaign goals are:
  1. To encourage discussion about the HIV virus between children and parents/guardians.
  2. To educate youth in order to prevent them from becoming a victim of HIV.
  3. To promote positive health behavioral change among youth ages 8 to 13.
  4. To decrease the taboos, myths and stigma associated with the HIV virus.
  5. To reduce the number of HIV infections in at-risk areas.

The Safe2live© productions are:

  • an informative, engaging, and ethnically-gender-balanced hip/hop 30 second Public Service Announcement, Safe2Live©, funded by Cable Positive-Tony Cox Community Fund.
  • a Safe2Live© Mobile Puppet Theater (MPT) service and its trailer funded by The Annie E. Casey Foundation and approved by the Baltimore City Public School HIV AND HUMAN SEXUALITY ADVISORY BOARD/PANEL.
  • a fun and educational website safe2live funded by Kaiser Permanente which supports the Safe2Live© Mobile Puppet Theater.
  • a Safe2Live© program support funded by P&G Live, Learn and Thrive approved byThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • a Safe2Live© Mobile Puppet Theater script and educational materials such as word search games, t-shirts, tile puzzles and poster-calendars are funded by The Annie E. Casey Foundationandapproved by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) Infectious Disease and Environmental Health Administration (IDEHA) Community Review Panel (CRP).
  • The Safe2live team uses Public Service Announcements, performing arts and the World Wide Web, as accessible outreach tools, for engaging and educating the most vulnerable demographic and target audience; youth ages 8-13 residing in high risk areas of HIV infection. The Safe2Live© Social Marketing Media Campaign increases Awareness, Education and Prevention by providing facts and extending accurate knowledge about this disease and is promoted through communication technologies, broadcast/cable networks, TV, radio and press in order to inform youth and therefore decrease the contracting of the HIV virus in high risk areas where the HIV infection rate is alarming.

It is imperative that we educate young people about the HIV/AIDS pandemic and how to protect themselves from infection. We must help adolescents understand the causes of HIV/AIDS, identify risky behaviors, enhance decision making skills, and alleviate their fears through the acquisition of knowledge.
